District Councilor Russell
George J. Russell of 30 Dolly Drive, Worcester is a licensed Real Estate broker, and the owner of George Russell Realty. George is a State Licensed Real Estate Instructor.
He has served as District 3 Councilor since January 2012.
District 3 includes the south east section of Worcester from College Hill to Hamilton Street and the neighborhoods of Grafton Hill, Union Hill, Vernon Hill, College Hill, Oakland Heights, Lake Ave, Edgemere, Quinsig Village and much of the Rt. 146 and Rt. 20 areas.
Councilor Russell, a life-long District resident, is a graduate of St. John’s High School and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Urban Studies from Worcester State University. He is a past President of the Lake Quinsigamond Watershed Association where he received the “Friend of the Lake Award.
He was presented the Thomas Jefferson Award by the Worcester Public Schools for volunteer services. He was also presented with the Champion of Union Hill award by the Oak Hill CDC and a Freiend of the Lake Award by the Lake Quinsig Watershed Association.
He served 8 years on the Worcester Planning Board including 3 years as Planning Board Chairman. Russell helped write the City’s Zoning Ordinance.
He was chosen by Mayor Petty as Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Works.

-Rewriting of the Outside Dining Ordinace allowing restaurants to have outdoor dining year round weather permitting.
-Rewriting the Parking Lot ordinance to cut red tape for small businesses with less than 16 spaces.
-Helping Development and proposing that there is a TIF policy for companies wanting a tax deal prioritizing Jobs for Worcester residents.
-Sponsored Council policy an an actual change in State Law as a Home Rule Petition to allow Senior Homeowners on Private Streets to wait to pay for public conversions until a property is sold.
-Proposed a change in Rules to allow inlaw apartments.
-Proposed use of ARPA funds for down payment assistance for 1st Generation Home Buyers.
